Ukuaru muusikamaja
Completed 2025
Halored had the privilege of contributing to the completion of the Ukuaru music house in Rakvere, dedicated to Arvo Pärt
This is an exceptional cultural building, where Estonian musical heritage, historic architecture and contemporary place-making meet. The former Pauluse Vabaduskirik has become a music house of real meaning, carrying forward both the spirit of the place and Arvo Pärt’s creative legacy.
The architects of the music house, Kristiina Aasvee, Kristiina Hussar and Anne Kose, based their solution on the original church designs created in the 1930s by Alar Kotli, one of Estonia’s most influential architects. The new architectural whole restores the building’s historic dignity, completing the spires Kotli had planned but which were never built at the time, and ties it to the functions of a present-day music house and the needs of the town.
Halored helped find the right solution for bringing out the building’s façade and historic towers. The aim of the lighting solution was to reveal the form, the verticality and the detail of the building, underlining its symbolic meaning in the Rakvere townscape while staying restrained and dignified. The lighting supports the architecture rather than dominating it, in keeping with the spirit of the place and the cultural meaning of the music house.
For the lighting we used professional products from the quality Italian brand iGuzzini, which made it possible to combine precise lighting control, high technical quality and a language of light that respects the architecture. The result is timeless, balanced exterior lighting that gives the building a dignified presence after dark and supports its role as an important cultural landmark.
