Halored had the great honor of contributing to the completion of the Ukuaru Music House dedicated to Arvo Pärt in Rakvere.

This is an exceptional cultural landmark where Estonia’s musical heritage, historical architecture, and contemporary spatial design come together. The former Pauluse Freedom Church has been transformed into a meaningful music venue that carries forward both the spirit of the place and the creative legacy of Arvo Pärt.

The architects of the music house — Kristiina Aasvee, Kristiina Hussar, and Anne Kose — based their design on the original church projects created in the 1930s by one of Estonia’s most influential architects, Alar Kotli. The new architectural ensemble restores the building’s historical dignity, completing Kotli’s originally planned but never realized tower spires, while integrating the functions of a modern music house and the needs of the surrounding urban space.

Halored helped develop a suitable solution to highlight the building’s façade and historic towers. The aim of the lighting design was to emphasize the building’s form, verticality, and rich details, highlighting its symbolic presence in Rakvere’s cityscape while remaining restrained and dignified. The lighting supports the architecture rather than dominating it, staying in harmony with the spirit of the place and the cultural significance of the music house.

For the lighting solutions, we used professional products from the high-quality Italian lighting brand iGuzzini, which allowed us to combine precise lighting control, high technical quality, and a lighting language that respects the architecture. The result is a timeless and balanced exterior lighting design that gives the building a dignified presence even in the dark and reinforces its role as an important cultural landmark.
